I am Vice Rector for Finance, Planning & Development of the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (Athens, Greece) and Professor of Social Policy at the Department of Social Policy.

I am a graduate in Economics (First Class Honours) from the Department of Economic Sciences, University of Athens and hold an MSc in Social Policy Analysis from the University of Bath, and a PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).  At the LSE I also did my postdoctoral research (postdoctoral fellow at LSE-STICERD).

I was Dean of the School of Social, Political and Economic Sciences and Professor of Social Policy at the Department of Social Administration and Political Science, Democritus University of Thrace, Greece.  I was head of the Research Unit “Social Policy, Poverty and Inequalities”, Labor Institute, Greek General Confederation of Labour. I was a Researcher at the Institute of Social Policy, National Centre for Social Research (Athens). I was  Senior Research Associate for the Greek Observatory on Poverty, Inequalities, Income and Social Exclusion, UADPhilEcon, University of Athens. I served as Deputy Head of the Department of Social Administration, Democritus University of Thrace. I was Director of Postgraduate Studies at the Department of Social Policy, Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. I am a founder member of the Hellenic Social Policy Association, where I was chairman and a board member, and a founder member and broad memeber of the Greek Association of Political Economy. I was a visiting academic at LSE-STICERD and a visiting professor at the Dept of Sociology, VU Amsterdam.

My main areas of research interests and publications are in the fields of political economy of social policy, social and economic inequalities, income distribution and redistribution, poverty and social exclusion, intergenerational consequences of inequality, distributional impact of government policies, macroeconomic environment and social protection, functional and personal distribution of income.  A significant part of my published work focuses on the comparative analysis of economic inequality and poverty between Mediterranean and EU countries and between welfare regimes. My expertise includes management and design of large social data bases and research infrastructures. I have participated in a large number of research projects in the above fields. My work has been published in books, research monographs, articles, book chapters and research reports, and has been presented in many conferences. Also short articles and interviews on issues related to inequality, poverty, social policy and economic crisis have been published in the Greek and foreign press. I have been invited speaker on radio and TV programmes.
